Standing Committees

Steering Committee

Comprised of a Chairman, Vice Chairmen, Committee Chairmen, Assistant Committee Chairmen, a Senior Managing Director, and other Directors, this committee deliberates on key issues related to the management of the Chugoku Economic Federation, as well as coordinating and facilitating the smooth management of the other eight standing committees.

Administrative and Financial System Committee

In response to the deteriorating state of national and regional finances, advancing globalization, Japan’s aging population, declining birthrate, and other socio-economic changes, this committee conducts research studies and formulates policy proposals/ requests pertaining to issues related to the promotion of decentralization, adoption of regional systems, and tax system reform.

Regional Development Committee

Aiming to promote the establishment of a foundation which contributes to the formation of an abundant and attractive economic zone covering a wide area even amid advancing depopulation, declining birth rate and aging, this committee engages in surveys and proposal/request activities pertaining to the strengthening of urban functions, revitalization of hilly and mountainous areas, creation of a network for extensive cooperation and exchange, and pursuing of dynamic engagement of diverse human resources.

Industry and Technology Committee

In order to strengthen and sustain regional industrial competiveness, this committee engages in activities that; (Ⅰ) support the creation of new businesses and industries; (Ⅱ) develop and secure human resources for industry ; and (Ⅲ) promote collaboration between industry, academia and government.

This committee also conducts research studies and formulates policy proposals / requests pertaining to issues related to the promotion of service industries (whose aim is to develop synergistically with the manufacturing industry), and to the development of countermeasures that deal with the impact of advancing economic globalization.

Information and Communications Committee

Examining the current status and issues facing informatization in the Chugoku Region, this committee conducts research studies and formulates policy proposals/ requests pertaining to issues related to; (Ⅰ) the future of the ubiquitous affluent Network Society; (Ⅱ) smooth assimilation of the age of cloud computing and SaaS; (Ⅲ) trends in communication, broadcasting, digital content, and other ICT related industries; and (Ⅳ) enhancement and optimization of ICT- driven infrastructure towards assimilation of community informatization.

Culture and Tourism Committee

To facilitate regionally integrated tourism promotion of the Chugoku Region, along with increasing the number of visitors to the region, this committee engages in tourism promotion and regional development activities that embody the region’s history, culture, and nature.

This committee also engages in promoting the culture of the Chugoku Region as an element of regional identity, since culture forms the foundation of craftsmanship and ingenuity in manufacturing, along with functioning as a tourism resource.

Energy and Environment Committee

Given the serious energy and environmental issues facing Japan and the world ( prevention of global warming and securing a stable energy supplies ), this committee conducts research studies and formulates policy proposals/ requests pertaining to issues related to: (Ⅰ) energy policy; (Ⅱ) reduction of greenhouse gas emissions;(Ⅲ) the current status of environment and energy conservation in the Chugoku Region.

International Relations Committee

This committee promotes cooperation and exchange with economic organizations and government agencies of newly emerging countries in Asia, among others, to support member companies in expanding their business abroad as well as securing and developing global human resources, and engages in overseas surveys and other international activities.

Kanmon Cooperation Committee

Jointly with Kyushu Economic Federation, this committee conducts research studies and formulates policy proposals/ requests pertaining to issues related to tourism promotion, industrial development, and international exchange in efforts towards integrated development of the Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu Regions.
