■ Fully-automated FA line that allows mass-production for the carburizing and quenching of a variety products

Carburizing and quenching are heat treatment techniques that are used to harden only the surface layer of mechanical parts that require strength. Since these techniques require complex and diverse management, the manufacture of small quantities of a variety of products usually requires the operation of about 5 furnaces. In order to respond to the demand for small lots of various products, we built an FA line that allows the efficient operation of 26 carburizing furnaces. This makes it possible to achieve an unprecedented level of mass production of small lots of various products (1,000 tons of 5,000 different types of products manufactured each month). This line won the Director General’s Prize, Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry at the 3rd Monodzukuri Nippon Award in 2014.
